What we did this summer

I am writing to you on the first day of September, which here in Corso Sempione is always a particular day. The offices reopen, the benches of our artisans fill up again, and we resume shipping the orders that came in through the online shop while we were closed. I confess it is one of my favourite days of the year. Before looking ahead, though, I would like to tell you what these months have been.

Summer is the season of production

To anyone unfamiliar with the rhythms of our workshop, summer might look like a pause. It is exactly the opposite. In June, in Florence, we presented the new collection and took orders. From that moment on there is only one thing to do: produce. We cut, we sew, we finish, and meanwhile the last of the leathers we had chosen arrive.

At the end of July, before closing, we shipped everything our retailers had ordered. I confess I left for my holidays with a very particular satisfaction, that of having left nothing unfinished.

What you asked us

Then there is the less visible work, which took up much of our time this summer. It concerns the website, but it is not a technical update: they are answers.

Every week we receive emails and phone calls with questions that often resemble one another. We decided to write them down, and we realised that one of the most frequent concerns the possibility of personalising a glove. The answer is yes: on certain models, such as art. Mille Miglia Tailor for driving and art. Heritage for women, you can choose the colour of the leather, the colour of the stitching and have your initials embroidered. It takes us around ten working days, and the glove that comes out of it is yours alone. On other models, such as art. 9 in pure cashmere and art. 57, personalisation is arranged directly with us: write to us, or let us talk it over in person when you visit the shop.

We have gathered all the other questions in one place. How to dry a glove that has got wet in the snow, what the difference is between a lambskin lining and an opossum one, what makes peccary such a rare leather, how to store gloves through the summer. These are only some of the questions you ask us, with our answers.

Our German-speaking readers have been following us for far longer than we have spoken to them in their own language. Since this summer the site can also be read in German: it was a recognition that was owed, and it allows us to reach a good part of those who live and ski across the Alpine arc.

In October we return to Corso Magenta

In the meantime autumn has already begun, at least for us. Preparations for the temporary shop are under way: this year too we will be at Corso Magenta 32, in Milan, from around the middle of October. We will give you the exact dates shortly, and tell you what you will find there.

It is the rhythm we have always known, the one that has marked our year for three generations: we produce in spring and summer, we open the temporary shop in autumn, we reach Sant’Ambrogio and then, at last, Christmas. A full calendar, a very Milanese one, of which we are rather fond.

In the meantime you can browse our online shop, with shipping resuming today. And if you are in the city or passing through Milan, we will see you in a few weeks at the temporary shop.

See you soon!
