On February 5 Cervinia celebrates a yearly appointment with its historical carnival; according to the legend the White Dame, an astonishingly beautiful girl, once used to live in the valley.
The giant Gargantua fell in love with her and kidnapped her. The inhabitants of the valley joined forces and started searching for her; they successfully convinced the giant to free her. Since then, every year this event has been commemorated: everything will start at 4.30pm when locals will begin searching for the White Dame around the streets of Cervinia.
At night groups in traditional dresses will get ready to welcome the White Dame at the Verres Castle. The event will draw to a close on February 13 when the Counts of Challant will give back the White Dame who will be accompanied by Gargantua.
